Your Step-By-Step Guide to Cleaning Up (or Not) after the Party

You ran. You danced. You skipped. You made color angels in the powder at the purple station. In short, you are now a human rainbow. That’s how you do the Color Vibe 5k, right?

But now that the music has stopped and everyone’s packing into their cars, you start to wonder how you’re ever going to get all that color off. Or how you’re going to get it to stay on forever. Either way, this guide is for you! We have prepared a step-by-step look at the best ways to do both after the party is over.

How to Stay Colorful

Step 1: Prepare your clothing.

Our color clings to damp clothing. If you get your shirt (pro tip: wear a light color!) a little wet before running through clouds of color, the vibrant powder is more likely to stain. Which is exactly what you want!

Step 2: Avoid the washing machine.

Like any stain, it becomes more stubborn the longer you wait to wash it. The same goes for our color! After the run, spray your shirt down with vinegar. Then iron it and lay it out to dry. WARNING: your shirt will smell like vinegar, so you might want to open some windows.

Step 3: Wash in cold water with minimal detergent.

After you’ve let your shirt dry for a while (remember, the longer you leave a stain, the more permanent it becomes), then throw your shirt in the washer. Please note, our color is created to AVOID staining everything, so your shirt might not be as vibrant as it was when you were jumping in the middle of a crowd color toss. But by the end, you’re sure to have enough color to remember the amazing day you had at the Color Vibe.

How to Clean Up

Step 1: Brush off as much color as you can.

Before you throw everything straight into the washing machine, use your hand or a junk towel to brush off as much powder as possible. We suggest doing this outside–otherwise you’ll have a lovely layer of blue dust on your bathroom floor.

Step 2: Scrub, scrub, scrub

Some of the color won’t come off your skin and hair right away. Don’t panic. Just scrub up the best that you can, and the remaining traces of pink and green will fade in a day or two. While you’re in the shower, pay special attention to your ears and your nose. You might have some colorful tissues for the next few days!

Step 3: Wash clothing as soon as possible.

We suggest wearing darker clothing to start, as those will hide color better. But no matter what color you wore to the party, you’ll want to get your clothes clean as quickly as possible to avoid stains. You should wash these items separately from everything else…unless you want to transfer the rainbow to something else you own.

Step 4: Double check.

Before you move everything to the dryer, double check that all the color has washed out. Once you dry your clothing, any color stains will be pretty well set. So if you need to run your shirt through another wash cycle, now is the time to do it!

If you follow this guide, you should be looking as clean as a before picture or as crazy colorful as an after picture. The choice is yours!
