5 Valentine’s Day Workouts

Our favorite part of Valentine’s Day here at the Color Vibe is chocolate. Chocolate hearts, chocolate roses, chocolate kisses…it’s as if this holiday were aimed at making people break their New Year’s Resolutions!

What if there were a way to make Valentine’s Day healthy? No, we’re not suggesting you abandon chocolate (although if you have that kind of willpower, we applaud you). Instead, we have a few ideas to incorporate some exercise into your romantic weekend. After all, working out doesn’t have to be about baggy clothes and sweaty pits. We’ll show you how getting up off the couch for Valentine’s Day can beat even the best box of chocolates on the grocery store shelf.

 

1. Breathe In… Breathe Out…

 If you haven’t tried yoga before, now is the perfect time. The deep, controlled breathing relaxes your mind and energizes your muscles, which might be exactly what you need to get in a good Valentine’s Day mood. Each pose is designed to increase flexibility and strength, and you can always go at your own pace. Added Bonus: The low intensity won’t make you sweat as much–you can be date-ready in no time!

2. In It to Win It

Nothing gets the sparks flying between two people like good, old fashioned competition. Choose a sport you both play–or try something brand new–and get moving together! If the glory of winning isn’t enough motivation, try raising the stakes with dinner on the line. Loser has to pay, or winner gets to choose the restaurant. In the end, everyone wins with a healthy dose of exercise and a fun time. Added Bonus: You might win free dinner.

3. Break the Ice

Okay, so maybe you only think of ice skating as date territory. But who says you can’t do both at the same time? According to Best Health, you can burn almost 400 calories per hour while ice skating at a slow pace. You might not realize it while you’re trying not to fall on your face, but you’re working out several stabilizing muscles that don’t see as much action in our everyday motions. Added Bonus: There’s almost always hot chocolate involved.

4. Dance Until You Drop

Whether you’re a trained professional or get around on two left feet, dancing is a great way to get your body moving. The awesome thing about dancing is that there’s no wrong way to do it. Everyone has his or her own style–the important thing is to get out there and own it! Plus, if you’re dancing with your sweetheart, they probably already love you for reasons other than your smooth moves, right? Added Bonus: You’ll probably look just as ridiculous as everyone else around you.

5. Run, Run, Run

It never hurts to get back to basics. Running gets your heart pumping, your endorphin flowing, and your body moving. And it’s easy to do no matter where you are! Do you have a path and some shoes? Then get out there! Plus, there’s no better way to prepare for the upcoming Color Vibe event in your city. By the time we come around, you (and your valentine) will be ready to party!
